Reporting to the Senior Editor, the Editor works with the Director , Publications Project Manager, Curators, Department Heads, and other MCA staff to develop and edit content for a comprehensive museum publishing and digital media program, ensuring the program meets the highest editorial standards and consistently reflect the MCA's institutional voice. The Editor also implements the MCA's institutional standards and style through copyediting, proofreading, and copywriting of museum publications and materials; manages production timelines; and communicates with artists, writers, contractors, designers, and MCA staff to achieve project deadlines and deliverables. To be successful in this role, you must: • Developmental edit, copyedit and/or proofread a broad spectrum of print and digital media (including exhibition labels, web texts, brochures, wall texts, advertisements, ephemera, invitations, donor and member letters, electronic communications, website content, and the MCA Blog). • Develop and shape content for exhibitions, web features, and marketing and fundraising campaigns, working collaboratively with other departments including Learning, Visual Arts, Collections and Exhibitions, Strategic Communications, and Development. • Participate in all stages of the catalogue development process including shaping the table of contents and prospectus in collaboration with the Director of Content Strategy and Curator, as well as selecting designers when applicable and vetting design decisions. • Manage workflow, production schedules, and deadlines for multiple, simultaneous projects; develop schedules for all projects in conjunction with the Publications Project Manager, Exhibition Project Manager, designers, editors, museum staff, and external consultants. • Work with essayists and curators to developmental edit content for publications; manage the manuscript's development through editing, copyediting, and final review. • Edit and project manage the MCA Blog, including communication with internal and external contributors, copyediting, and posting of all blog content. • Collaborate with the Director of Content Strategy to develop training, including writing workshops, to help museum staff to improve their writing and editing skills and knowledge about the publishing process. • Support the MCA's various accessibility initiatives including the drafting of alternative web text for newsletters and web pages to support Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility at the MCA. • Work with the Director of Content Strategy and the Publications Project Manager to develop publishing schedules and deadlines, and evaluate and hire contractors, freelance editors, authors, essayists, and researchers as needed; communicate with the publisher to establish the fact sheet and other critical elements of catalogue production. • Assist in the project management of the print production process, including reviewing layouts, bluelines, and color proofs for publications in collaboration with the Rights and Images Manager, Curator, Designer, and Director of Content Strategy • Conduct conversations with various project stakeholders to evaluate and implement opportunities for interdepartmental collaboration and narrative overlap to effectively communicate the stories of contemporary artists in innovative, accessible formats. • Assist in updating and maintaining the MCA Style Guide (in accordance with appropriate current editorial and museological trends) and oversee its implementation throughout the museum. • Work with the Content Strategy Assistant to write contracts, and request and monitor payments for authors and freelancers. This is a full-time position, with a Monday - Friday 9a-5p schedule that may occasionally include evening and weekend availability as required to fulfill responsibilities and for related museum activities. Ability to perform occasional light lifting, operate computers, printers, and telephones and general mobility throughout the building required. The salary for this role ranges from $44,060 - $55,070.
